Crisis in the Holy Land video/discussion series. Jan 13: Max Blumenthal, America Jew,author of the 2013 book Goliath: life and loathing in greater Israel https://facebook/events/880028008714920/?context=create&previousaction=create&source=49&sid_create=2300794575 Next in the Crisis in the Holy Land video/discussion series sponsored by the Helena Service for Peace and Justice and the Montana Coalition for Palestine -- Tuesday, January 13, 6:30pm, Helena library -- In Goliath, New York Times bestselling author Max Blumenthal takes us on a journey through the badlands and high roads of Israel-Palestine, painting a startling portrait of Israeli society under the siege of increasingly authoritarian politics as the occupation of the Palestinians deepens. Beginning with the national elections carried out during Israels war on Gaza in 2008-09, which brought into power the countrys most right-wing government to date, Blumenthal tells the story of Israel in the wake of the collapse of the Oslo peace process. Blumenthal interviews the demagogues and divas in their homes, in the Knesset, and in the watering holes where their young acolytes hang out, and speaks with those political leaders behind the organized assault on civil liberties. As his journey deepens, he painstakingly reports on the occupied Palestinians challenging schemes of demographic separation through unarmed protest. He talks at length to the leaders and youth of Palestinian society inside Israel now targeted by security service dragnets and legislation suppressing their speech, and provides in-depth reporting on the small band of Jewish Israeli dissidents who have shaken off a conformist mindset that permeates the media, schools, and the military. ------------------------------------------------------ Series began on December 9 with a video of Israeli Jew Miko Peled Speaking Out About Israel… Peled is the son of an Israeli General-Turned-Peacemaker. Born in Jerusalem in 1961 into a well known Zionist family, his grandfather, Dr. Avraham Katsnelson was a Zionist leader and signer of the Israeli Declaration of Independence. His Father, Matti Peled, was a young officer in the war of 1948 and a general in the war of 1967 when Israel conquered the West Bank, Gaza, Golan Heights and Sinai. He learned the truth about the Zionist entity that is Israel and now speaks about the truth of Israel. In this lecture he clears up myths about Israel and exposes Israel. Keep in mind he is a Jew.” Video of Ilan Pappé speaking about Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaign: https://youtube/watch?v=buhpHTGAlTE _______________________________________ Date TBA in January, 2015: Helena SERPAJ will show the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) short documentary Waiting for Fahd: One Family’s Hope for Life Beyond Guantánamo (see ccrjustice.org/fahd) which tells the story of CCR client Fahd Ghazy, who has been illegally detained at Guantánamo since he was 17. He is now 30 years old. Through moving interviews with his family in Yemen, the film paints a vivid portrait of the life that awaits a man who, despite being twice cleared for release, continues to needlessly languish at Guantánamo because of his nationality. A heartbreaking tale of a dream deferred, “Waiting for Fahd” is also a story about the durability of hope. Omar Farah of CCR writes: “Over Thanksgiving, I met with Fahd in Guantánamo. He was moved to know that so many of you will now know more about his plight. On his behalf, I ask you to help us tell Fahd’s remarkable story! Please share the film through e-mail, Facebook and Twitter (hashtag #FreeFahd). Stand in solidarity with Fahd by taking a photograph of yourself holding a #FreeFahd sign and uploading it to our Tumblr page. Raising public awareness around Fahd’s story and the ongoing injustice of Guantánamo is critical to moving decision-makers in the Obama Administration to release Fahd and the scores of other men now approaching their thirteenth year without charge or trial at Guantánamo, including CCR clients Ghaleb Al-Bihani, Tariq Ba Odah, and Mohammed Al-Hamiri. I asked Fahd what he would say to someone who had seen his film. “Now that you have heard my story and seen my dreams, you cannot turn away… Be a voice for the voiceless – for another human being who is suffering,” he answered. Be that voice. SHARE FAHD’s STORY. ccrjustice.org/fahd Help us share this film and send a clear message to those who have power over his fate that now is the time to free him so that he can be reunited with his family. Together we can work towards ending indefinite detention at Guantánamo once and for all.”
