Cristiano Ronaldo is still the most expensive player in the world, according to reports in Spanish newspaper AS. (external) They claim that Real Madrid insist the purchase of forward Gareth Bale from Tottenham cost 76.4m (91m euros), less than the 80.6m (96m euros) the Spanish side paid to sign attacker Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2009. However, Tottenham say 24-year-old Bale was sold for a world-record fee of 85.3m (100m euros).
