Cristiano Ronaldo shuns Sepp Blatter attempts to hold talks The forward is refusing to accept the FIFA chiefs attempts to apologise for his October remarks. Blatter had targeted private talks at the FIFA Ballon dOr Gala. Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t forgotten Sepp Blatter’s appearance at Oxford University in October, where the FIFA president admitted his admiration for Lionel Messi, declared his preference for the Argentine as winner of the 2013 Ballon d’Or and appeared to mock the Real Madrid man’s on-field movements. Blatter has attempted to contact Cristiano via a variety of channels to offer his apologies – but on each occasion has found the Portugal international unwilling to talk. The player has already stated that he has put the controversy firmly behind him. However, he is refusing to accept Blatter’s apology, maintaining that the damage is done and there’s no way back. Unable to speak to Cristiano, the FIFA chief had targeted private talks with the 28-year-old at January’s FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala in Zurich. However, this has been frustrated by Cristiano’s decision not to attend the event. Anticipating the Madrid forward’s absence from the ceremony, FIFA announced last week that the number of finalists for the award will be increased from three to five, avoiding the prize’s image being diluted by his non-attendance. For Cristiano, the publication of FIFA’s Ballon d’Or contender profiles was the final straw, with the organisation handing rivals Lionel Messi and Franck Ribéry more positive write-ups.
