**Critical South Carolina Wind Energy Legislative Update** SENATOR HEMBREE NEEDS YOUR HELP! Senator Greg Hembree introduced a Wind Energy enhancement bill recently (Senate Bill 1011 (scstatehouse.gov/sess120_2013-2014/bills/1011.htm). The bill was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee for consideration. This committee will decide on this bill on Tuesday morning April 1st. We need for you to help move this bill through by sending encouraging emails to the Committee Senators. We attached a file hereto to explain what the bill does and does not do. Here is a link to the Judiciary Committee membership page. Please write to them by clicking a member’s name and then clicking “Send a Message to the Senator” link. scstatehouse.gov/committeeinfo/senatejudiciary.php Some points to mention: • We have the largest wind turbine drive train test facility in the world in North Charleston. It makes sense to allow the Wind Energy to develop. • As entrenched South Carolina utilities explain, Wind Energy costs more than Coal and Nuclear. If we allow wind technology to go to market, costs will fall, like all technologies in history. Give wind a chance for us to make progress. • The economic impact from an offshore wind farm is tremendous. Refer to this economic impact study: northstrandcoastalwindteam.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WindEnergyEconomicImpact7-2012FINAL.pdf • The City of North Myrtle Beach has a plan in place to adopt wind power: northstrandcoastalwindteam.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Business-Diagram-Community-Based-Wind-Program.pdf • We have an overwhelming positive approval rating from the public (87%): northstrandcoastalwindteam.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/FINAL-2011-SURVEY-TOWARDS-POTENTIAL-OFFSHORE-WIND-ENERGY-IN-SC.pdf • We need some elbow room to move this development process further along. The Time Is Now! The North Strand Coastal Wind Team works hard to bring wind energy to South Carolina. Wind Energy Lease Blocks now exist off of North Myrtle Beach; The coastal community of North Myrtle Beach is willing to host an offshore wind farm with a cable coming ashore in North Myrtle Beach (87% approval according to a Clemson Survey); We now need to appease the Utilities of South Carolina. Senator Greg Hembree stepped forward, can you help?
