Cross Notes, Monday - In the Meridian Star Newspaper, Bill Crawford wrote a guest editorial entitled “Indivisible Falling Apart”. Here is some of what he had to say. “In between Memorial Day, when we as a nation remember and celebrate those who died for our freedom, and Independence Day, when we as a nation remember and celebrate the freedoms they died for, we should remember our roots and ponder if the divided nation we are becoming is something to celebrate……“One nation indivisible” does not allow itself to be torn apart from within. It sustains ties, mends frays, and forges new bonds. It makes diversity a strength and consensus its goal……Our founders said we must do all this in a mutually agreeable way. The “dividers” of today want to leave out or greatly weaken some parts (of the Constitution). How do we stop them? Tell our elected leaders we expect them to seek agreement, find common ground. There is no other side. America is indivisible.” Mr. Crawford believes that the partisan nature of politics in our country is dividing our nation. And he may be right. And if we are not careful, the same thing can happen in the Church. But God’s Word is clear, there is no place for divisions or quarrels or petty politics in the Body of Christ! (From the sermon “United We Stand” Cross Roads Baptist Church, 6/9/13)
