Crossing El Golfete, the prominent 85-foot bridge marks the twin cities of Fronteras & El Relleno. The bridge was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This is also known as the marina district for obvious reasons, being the location of several marinas and boatyards. Many of the marinas are only accessible by water with no connecting roads. At one side of the bridge, Fronteras is a bustling town full of shops, tiendas, hotels, restaurants and about every possible thing you might need to provision. Every kind of boat and marine service can be had in this area. Its also the social hub of the river. Theres always something going on somewhere. Fronteras is also the main connection for bus service to Guatemala City, five hours away. El Relleno is on the opposite end of the bridge and has its own selection of shops, restaurants and one of the popular marinas.
