Crossing the Bar -- CDR Dick Laverty It is with much regret that we advise of the passing of CDR Richard (Dick) Laverty, VRD, RNZNVR, S920775. CO TOROA 1981-1984. He enlisted on 08-01-1953 after being called up for CMT. He was commissioned on 17-07-1955, assuming the rank of Sub Lieutenant, and went on to serve efficiently for 30 years, posting to the Retired List of Officers in the rank of Commander on 31 1 2 1983. He was awarded the Volunteer Reserve Decoration with an additional clasp for 25 years service. During his service he was an associate professor of pharmacology at Otago University spending his entire RNZNVR Career posted to Toroa. He served onboard HMNZS’s Bellona, Black Prince and Canterbury during the 1950s and onboard Motor Launches (MLs) in the early 1970s. Our apologies for the late posting of this due to a technical issue. CDR Laverty’s funeral was held yesterday at St Pauls Cathedral, The Octagon, Dunedin.
