Crust of Souls © Surazeus 2012 08 23 Wet crust of the Earth is composed of dust that crumbles from bodies of living souls, preserving memories of their hopes and fears in soil that nourishes apples we eat. Each apple we eat contains multitudes of spirits who once explored our lush world, millions of years contained in each bright drop of juice that sparkles awake dreaming minds. I see shadows of their faces glow dim in halo of memory around my face when I gaze at surface of shimmering pool and count silent eyes reflected in stars. I dig my aching hands in crust of souls, feeling moist spirit of the recent dead, then plant new hopeful seeds of apple trees so molecules transform and live again.
