Cuba, 10-24th January 2015 (Gates Are Open) After much research I will detail out the necessary procedure for a trip to Cuba. 1. Tour Company The tour company that I am going with is Intrepid Travel. They specialized in small group tours to interesting places in the world. This is the first time I am traveling with them but friends of mine who have traveled with them found them to be quite good. The company offer 3 types of travel. Basic, Original and Comfort. Basic is with camping and home-stays. Original is home-stays with hotels. And Comfort is with high end hotels. All these are to cater to the groups as well as the locations they are conduction these tours.. For Cuba, it will be Original. So it is hotels and home-stays. This is because Cuba is not known for high end hotels (at least not yet). The trip I am going on is the Best of Cuba (15 Days trip). See this: intrepidtravel/cuba/best-cuba-71126 The tour starts on Sat, 10th January and ends on the 24th January 2015. So you need to be in Cuba by the 9th of January. The cost of the tour is around US$1775 per person twin sharing. As to single supplement you need to write to them to find out. 2. Visa You need a tourist visa to get into Cuba. There are only 3 Cuba consulates in this part of the world that will issue this. They are in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Just Google Cuba consulate Thailand to get the address and phone number. I managed only to contact the ones in Bangkok and Jakarta. The consulate in KL doesnt seem to want to pick up the phone. It will cost you about US$25 for a visa to Cuba but the cost of acquiring it for Singaporeans is a bit more as you got to spend at least 3 days in either Bangkok or KL or Jakarta. I have the forms for the visa and the necessary required documentations. So if you need these let me know. I am going to Bangkok to get my visa and then spend 3 days for some R&R there! 3. Flights There are only 2 reliable flights to Havana, Cuba. One is by Virgin Atlantic via London and the other is by KLM via either Amsterdam or Paris. The KLM flights are better as they are daily while the one by VA is 3 times a week. The flight from either Singapore or KL to Amsterdam is about 12 hours and the flight from Amsterdam to Havana is about 13 hours. I will probably layover a day to two in Amsterdam before taking another long flight to Cuba or back to Singapore. I am flexible. 4. Process Right now there are 3 other people who are interested in this trip. Remember I am not the tour leader but a fellow traveler. So I am going to give you my process for going this trip. a. I will book the trip with Intrepid Travel by end August. This will also include the airline tickets. This is important to do as you need these documents in order to get the visa. Also, January is one of the best times to visit Cuba as the weather is very good so seats on flights might be few. b. I will go to Bangkok to get my visa either in Sep or Oct. Be prepared to spend at least 3 days there! I am putting out this as a Gates Are Open kind of notice for those who are interested. I will put up another Final Call when the time comes. If you need more information please let me know.
