Cultivate Hunger::NPWC 21 Day Corporate Fast Day 8 (January 8) – LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON Ephesians 5:1 (NIV) - Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. Several years ago a series of public service television ads ran that showed scenes of fathers and sons enjoying time together in various activities. We would see the Dad doing something, the son doing the same thing, looking to his Dad for that special smile of approval. Each heart-tugging moment, whether fishing, playing catch, or working in the yard painted a beautiful portrait of an idyllic father-son relationship, and was capped by the slogan, Like father, like son. The pattern continued until the final vignette which showed the dad leaned against a shade-tree taking a puff of a cigarette, followed by the same admonishment, this time in the form of a question, Like father… like son? Children DO tend to imitate their parents (for better or for worse!), including grown-up children. Destructive attitudes and behavioral patterns that we have learned from the ones we looked to for guidance early in life can be overcome by spending time with the One who NEVER leads us astray! The best way for us to make sure we are making the right deposits into those who LOOK UP to us is for us to LOOK UP to our Heavenly Father. Making time to be re-taught by the Lord will cause us to begin to think like God, speak like God, and act like God! As we grow into His image we can be confident that those who imitate us will be imitating the right things! Break the cycle of unprofitable thoughts and actions in the lives of those looking to you by renewing your own mind by the word of God! Let it truly be said of us today, Like Father, like son! Prayer Focus: I learn to imitate God by spending time in His word and in prayer. #npwc #cultivatehunger2015
