Culturally, one of the many things that my generation tries to - TopicsExpress

Culturally, one of the many things that my generation tries to skip out on when it comes to these things we call “fa’alavelave’s”, is the part where we give money. I have come across many people my age or in my generation, who says “that’s so stupid! Why do we have to give?” or they say “ANOTHER one?” or “who is this money even going to?” Since being married, I told my husband, “I want us to begin to take on the cultural mindset when it comes to giving to our families.” Of course we won’t let it pressure us or take from us in a way that will hinder our marriage or our family but we WILL get involved. Whether it’s a family member we were close to or someone down our heritage line, we won’t miss an opportunity to give. Let us not water down what family really means to us as a samoan people. Family is there through the good AND the bad. I know of some people in this generation who say “well we didn’t even really know them growing up” and then end up not getting involved. There will come a day where YOU will need family. You’re going to need something and when you do, you want your family to say “THEY always give and show up so let’s help .” Let’s keep the culture strong. Don’t let society replace the meaning of what a FAMILY UNDER GOD has always been to us. #JustSomeCulturalThoughts
