Cumberland County Sheriff Sworn in for a Sixth Term Cumberland County Sheriff Earl “Moose” Butler was re-sworn into office for a sixth term this morning in a courtroom filled with his Command Staff, family members and long-time friends. Butler, who has served as the county’s Sheriff since 1994 and is one of the longest serving Sheriff’s in North Carolina, was administered the Oath of Office by Cumberland County Senior Resident Superior Court Judge James Ammons, Jr. Also re-sworn today were Sheriff Butler’s Command staff and deputies. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has 310 sworn officers with 189 personnel serving in the county’s Detention Center. Butler also manages a forty four point five million dollar ($44.5 million) operating budget.
