Cumbria, Lancaster, and, North East sabs teamed up to hit the hitherto untouched Eskdale and Ennerdales New Years day meet at the Woolpack Inn, Hardknott Pass. Arriving at Hardknott Pass around 9.30am the groups took up various positions in the vicinity, including sitting unnoticed amongst support near the Woolpack, and waited for the hunt to set off which they did around 10.45am. Heading up towards Little Barrow the hounds picked up a scent and immediately went into cry, in our opinion a fox had been released minutes earlier to provide a fresh scent and instant sport for the bloodjunkies below. After sighting the fox the sabs whod been tagging along with road support announced themselves by filming and demanding the hounds be called off, when scant response was received a gizmo was produced and employed. This appeared to have an effect splitting the pack, and raising the hounds heads long enough to buy the fox a little time as it bolted back along the crags above the Woolpack. Up on the fells other groups had now taken up various vantage points with North East sabs relaying information from their position overlooking Beckfoot, and Lancaster sabs using a second gizmo to create confusion from the Gate Crag area. Just after 11.20am hounds in and around woods near Fisherground Farm picked up a scent and again went into cry. As they disappeared amongst the spruces the sabs on the road used the gizmo a second time and successfully drew them back out again. For the next half hour all remained quiet as hounds were scattered all over, then just before noon word came that the huntsman was back at the meet and calling the hounds in, theyd only been out just over an hour! Sabs stuck around, making sure not to wander into the Woolpacks grounds as the landlord had earlier ordered them from the property, watching as the hunt packed up then escorted the houndvan back to the kennels. Meanwhile over at the Blencathra Barry was having an equally torrid time. Monitored, amid atrocious weather conditions, by two sabs he set off just before 11am leading the pack along the front of Carrock Fell. The sabs kept pace with him until they lost touch just after 11.30am, when they located him again at midday hed packed up! Back over at Hardknott Pass sabs received the news from Carrock Fell with joy! However, still eager for more action they set off to Loweswater to try and find the Melbreak! Alas on arrival the weather was appalling and it was clear the hunt wouldnt be out! With the day now over North East sabs set off on the long journey home where as Cumbria and Lancaster sabs descended on Buttermere for a well earned pint and chips! Many thanks to all the sabs who traveled to help us out its greatly appreciated and we hope to catch up with you all again soon. Cheers! :-) If anybody could make a donation to our fuel fund itd be greatly appreciated, the groups coffers are nearly empty. To donate just click on the link below. Many thanks, Cumbria sabs x gofundme/i1zobg
