Cunningham Drug Store has been mentioned in a few threads here. Most prominent in 48224 was probably the branch at the Civic Center on the northeast corner of Houston Whittier and Hayes, due north of Papes which was on the southeast corner of that same intersection. Heres a Wikipedia article about Cunningham. One item I found of interest was that Cunningham had branches in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I remember seeing the 1983 movie Spring Break about kids on - what else? Spring Break! - in Fort Lauderdale and there is one scene where the boys are cruising the streets of the city in a convertible and exterior signage of numerous local businesses are flashed on the screen - and one of them, actually flashed TWICE over the course of that scene, was the green-lettered Cunninghams name - same font, same color, same logo. I remember being amazed and almost not believing what I had seen - do they actually have Cunninghams in Florida? I thought it was strictly Detroit! This article shows I wasnt hallucinating.
