Curating the installation art for the Warehouse Artist Lofts project was a very meaningful experience on many levels. It was my first time taking someones vision for a space and translating that into reality, so thank you to Ali Youssefi for believing I was the right one for the job. Your bold idea is nearly realized and its going to continue to spark so much change in Sacramento and beyond. The project also gave me a chance to work with so many amazingly talented Sacramento artists, most of whom Id never worked with before. Collaborating with each of them to channel the inspiration and goals of the development into a unique site-specific piece was one of the most enriching experiences Ive had recently. To see all of them stretch themselves to the maximum, working countless hours, often in new mediums and in unconventional spaces was awe-inspiring. There was a community within a community as they got to know WAL and each other. As this will be a future home for many of Sacramentos creative class (myself included), it was a chance to really put the best of what we have to offer on display and show people the breadth and depth of brilliance we have walking around the grid ready to devote all of themselves to this community. I am so proud to see this project come together and Im so grateful to have been a part of this. As always the incredible Joan Cusick was able to do an essential job documenting this process so comprehensively it will be sure to live on and touch many people inside and out of our region.
