Curators and interns at The New York State Museum recently uncovered a recording of Dr. Martin Luther King giving a speech on the Emancipation Proclamation. In the speech, given in 1962, Dr. King remarks that [t]he Emancipation Proclamation was the offspring of the Declaration of Independence. It was a constructive use of the forces of law to uproot a social order which sought to separate liberty from a segment of humanity.
