Curiosity led me to analyse the vision for Art & Culture sector in the Manifestos of 3 major political parties - Congress, BJP & AAP. None have much to offer. Its high time we need to introspect and get together creating our own path. Also we need to prove the significant contribution of Art & Culture in GDP & its immense potential as a tool of diplomacy. Congress : NO MENTION OF ART & CULTURE (Note- Speaks for itself) BJP : - Establishing the National Centre for Tribal Research and Culture to preserve the tribal culture and languages Curate their rich heritage and culture - maintenance and restoration of heritage sites; digitization of archives; preservation and promotion of Urdu. (Note- More related to Hindutva propaganda than a universal & objective approach) AAP : - Section 26 : Sports and Culture Point 5 : Making sports and cultural activities an integral part of school education; provide children exposure to the diverse cultures that co-exist in India. Point 6 : Numerous museums that house the history and heritage of our country; yet these are in a shameful state of mismanagement and disrepair. Museums would be made more accessible and interesting, and their management improved. Schools would be encourages to bring their students to these museums on an ongoing basis. Point 7 : Investment in public libraries in village clusters and small towns; their ongoing upkeep and maintenance to be done by Gram Sabhas (or Mohalla Sabhas). (Note- Nothing New) NONE of the parties seem to have consulted any practitioners of Art & Culture !!! Center for Cultural Innovation and Economics
