Currency Exchange Counters and ATMs to be Placed at Gem Exhibition …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Yangon, June 6 Private Banks have reported that they will put currency exchange counters and ATMs (automated teller machines) for the first time at the 50th Golden Jubilee Gem Expo in Nay Pyi Daw. As enquired from these banks, Asia Green Development Bank (AGD), Kanbawza Bank (KBZ) and Co-operative Bank (CB) will each place an ATM machine at the exhibition. The said machine is said to be compatible with various universal payment cards, such as VISA, Master, JCB, CUP, and MPU. The AGD bank and CB bank will each set a currency exchange counter at the Golden Jubilee Gem Expo. Furthermore, the AGD bank will put currency exchange counters at the Nay Pyi Daw Airport and the Aurium Hotel, notifies the aforementioned banks. U Htun Hla Aung, secretary of the Myanmar Gem Enterprise, informs the Voice that “to make payment easier and more convenient than before, we have enabled foreign and local private banks to make direct payments.” Gem companies can also make easier and quicker payments as POS machines have been set that allow for purchases through VISA and Master cards, claims U Phay Myint, managing director of the CB Bank. The director says that there have been past cases where customers do not pay for the jewels and that the purpose of the said arrangements (putting currency exchange counters, ATMs, and POS machines) is to facilitate the process of transaction. He also claims that no changes have been made to the exhibition rules and regulations regardless. The Expo will be held from June 15th to June 17th, according to the Myanmar Gem Enterprise
