African Union (AU) threatens military government of Burkina Faso with sanctions if the power is not handed to a civilian ruler within 2 weeks. - President Blaise Compaore has fled to neighbouring Ivory Coast after massive mass protest resulted in a military coup last week. - He has been in power since 1987 riding on victory in four successive disputed elections. - He wanted to hang on to power by amending the constitution to grab presidency for a fifth term - this in turn triggered widespread public outrage. - Lt Col Isaac Zida is currently serving as the interim leader of the Army-backed government. 2. Some facts about print media in India as per RNI (Registrar of Newspapers for India): - 5642 new publications were registered during 2013- 14 with a growth rate of 5.95% over the previous year. - Out of the total 99660, publications registered as on 31st March, 2014, the largest number of newspapers and periodicals registered in any Indian language were in Hindi with a figure of 40,159. - English had the second largest number of newspapers and periodicals which was 13,138. - The total claimed circulation of newspapers stood at 45,05,86,212 as against 40,50,37,930 copies in 2012- 13. 5. Bhuvaneswar Kumar wins the ICC Peoples choice award for the year 2014. - He is now the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and M S Dhoni to bag this prestigious award. 6. Indian Railways look to use alternative fuels like bio-diesel for running its vast fleet of over 4000 Diesel locomotives. - As mentioned in Railway Budget 2014-15, Indian Railways will soon start using Bio-Diesel up to 5% of the total fuel consumption in diesel locomotives. - Over two billion litres of diesel worth Rs.15000 crore is consumed every year by the Railways. 7.
