Current Affairs – 20 June 2013 1.Uttarakhand was affected badly due to heavy rains and floods recently. Temples at kedarnath and Badrinath were also damaged severely and Pilgrimage to the shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath cannot resume for three years. After visiting the affected area, Government of India has announced a disaster relief fund of 1000 crore rupees to Uttarakhand. Of the total fund announced, 145 crore rupees will be released by the Government immediately. 2.India’s Rupee touched to record low value of 60 per USDduring today’s trade following Fed’s announcement, consistentforeign currency outflow and stock market correction. Rupee settled at 59.53 per USD at the end of today’s trade. Persistent capital outflows from foreign funds and strong demand of USDby importers triggered steep rupee depreciation. 3.Indian advertising agencies won some Gold and Bronze lions at the ongoingCannes Lions International Festival of Creativity including 2 Gold Lions by theTaproot Indiaand two silver lions byGrey Worldwide Indiaand theO&M Indiaeach. Taproot bagged the gold trophiesfor its Times of India campaign onfarmer suicides. There were no silvers for Indian agencies, but three bronze lions that went to Grey for DHL and Duracell, and O&M for Philips. In Public Relations area, Publicis Communications took home a silver, while O&M India along withMindshare Fulcrum bagged a bronze and so did BBDO, which also won a bronze in the same category. 4.World Refugee Day is observed today (20th June) across the world. World Refugee Day is observed every year to honour the courage, strength and determination of people who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.The focus of World Refugee Day 2013 is on the impact of war on families. The theme for this year is“Take 1 minute to support a family forced to flee” and the core message is “1 family torn apart by war is too many”
