After the exit of Aruna Roy, the Union Government has reconstituted the National Advisory Council after inducting sociologist Virginius Xaxa into the 12-member panelchaired by Sonia Gandhi . Xaxa has written extensively on tribal communities and is a professor atthe Tata Institute of Social Sciences,Guwahati. 2. K R Kamath, the chairman and managing director of Punjab National Bank (PNB) has been re-elected as the Chairman of Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) for 2013-14 tenure today at the 66th annual general meeting. IBA has also elected Aditya Puri, managing director and CEO of HDFC Bank, as its new Deputy Chairman . At the same time, Pratip Chaudhuri, the Chairman of State Bank of India (SBI), has been elected as the Honorary Secretary of IBA. 3. Chief Executive of Jet Airways, Nikos Kardassis has resigned after a five-year stint with the company. The chief operating officer Capt HameedAli has been appointed as the interim chief executive of the company . Following deal with Etihad Airways, Etihad reportedly demanded a change in the management under the deal, including removal of Goel’s wife from the airline’s board and change in chief executive role. 4. Indian rupee closed below the key 57-mark against US dollar today for the first time in a year sliding by 22 paise to 57.06 . More rupee depreciation will make imports costlier, increase current account deficit and inflation risk. This drop in Rupee value is good for export industries including IT Industry. 5. India Cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with earnings of USD 31.5 million, has been ranked at 16th place on Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes . He was at 31 st positionin 2012. The list is topped by golfer Tiger Woods. 6. Famous Telugu music director and playback singer Jetti Veera Raghavulu passed away in Rajahmundry today following illness . He was 82. Hemade his debut as a music director for ‘Drohi’ in 1970 and after that he scored music for more than 170 films during his entire career. 7. Famous Irish author Kevin Barry won 100000 Euro International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for his debut novel, City of Bohane . To win this award he defeated 153 entries from 160 libraries of 44 countries. With this win, he has become the third Irish author to win this award. 8. US-headquartered Indian second largest IT services Company Cognizant has been ranked at 12 th place in the Forbes list of America’s 25 fastest growing tech companies. Apart from Cognitzant, no other Indian companies has been ranked in the list. Social Networking majors LinkedIn and Facebook secured1 st and 2 nd ranks in the same list followed by 3D Systems (4th), IPG Photonics (5th), EPAM Systems (6th), Shutterstock (7th), InvenSense (8th), Shutterfly (9th),OpenTable (10th), SolarWinds (11th), athenahealth (13th), Ixia (14th) and Equinix (15th). Google is ranked at 17 th Place in the same list. 9. Famous golfer Tiger Woods has been ranked at the top in Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes list with earnings of USD 78.1 million followed by tennis star Roger Federer with earnings of USD 71.5 million. Kobe Bryant, American professional basketball player, has been ranked third with earnings of USD 61.9 million. Female tennis star, Maria Sharapova has been ranked at No 22 with earnings of USD 29 million . This is the best rank by any female athlete. Serena Williams (at 68 with USD 20.5 million) and Li Na (at 85 with USD18.2 million) are the other two female athlete who made in the list of top 100.
