Currently the SLSNZ Surf Lifeguard Award has a measured swim time component of nine minutes to complete 400m in a swimming pool. The International Life Saving Federation (ILS) currently does not recognise the New Zealand award as meeting the criteria of an international Surf Lifeguard. Consultation has been undertaken and as such, there is clear support to implement a lower time limit of eight minutes. But before the final decision is made by the SLSNZ Board, there will be a chance for clubs and the wider membership to express their views on the recommendation.
