Curry King Confidential - an occasional blog. An interesting story on the BBC website caught our eye this week involving the discovery of a long-forgotten curry recipe from the Victorian era. We have to say, it doesnt sound especially appetising, the main ingredients being dripping, milk and apples. But perhaps we should ask one of our chefs to give it the Raval treatment. Who knows, it might just surprise us. But what this story does demonstrate is the way in which Indian cuisine has evolved over the years in the hands of English cooks. Its a phenomenon we at Raval are very familiar with. Back in 2009, we revealed how Hexham-born Hannah Glasse published the fist ever British curry recipe in 1747 - and our chefs created their very own version of it using pheasant from Northumberland. The story appeared in the Journal - read it here goo.gl/El7fzw - and was featured on TV. If youre interested in the Victorian curry story, just copy and paste the link below this picture into your browser. Or, click on the picture itself to see how you can sample Ravals award-winning food at a fraction of the normal cost. Were offering two courses for £15, a saving of up to 46%. But hurry, the offer ends on January 31.
