Curtis Mayfields career began in 1956 when he joined The Roosters with Arthur & Richard Brooks plus Jerry Butler and by 1958 they were to become The Impressions. The group had a couple of hit singles with Jerry Butler taking the lead in , For Your Precious Love & Come Back My Love , then Butler and Curtis Mayfield left with him, co-writing and performing on Butlers next hit, He Will Break Your Heart , before rejoining The Impressions and throughout the sixties the hits cam in abundance. After going solo in late 1969 Curtis recorded his debut album in 1970 entitled Curtis and from in came the biggest hit of his career, both as an artist and songwriter, with Move On Up . At Nearly 9 minutes long in its album version, it was not released as a single in the USA, but an edited version of the song spent ten weeks in the top 50 of the UK Singles Chart, peaking at #12.
