Curtis Page and Darrin Hunter, I hope to continue our discussion - TopicsExpress

Curtis Page and Darrin Hunter, I hope to continue our discussion here. I suppose that rather than debating idealism vs realism, it would be more productive to address the underlying claim that QM has something to say about consciousness. The discussion of idealism vs realism is going to run us into a lot of definition problems, since philosophical realism is satisfied by all resolutions of Bells theorem, even though a specific physics definition of realism may be rejected as one solution. Specifically, superposition is a violation of a technical realism definition which is physics-specific (counter-factual definiteness), yet satisfies the requirements of philosophical realism; that is to say, a quanta in superposition has properties that are mind-independent; a quantum wave function is independent of your understanding of it, and in fact manifests without anyones understanding at all.
