Customs, ‘Global’ Willing For Settlement – Minister ‘No Plan To Take Action Against PASS Staff’ Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh disclosed that a team headed by Fatwa and Legislation Department will negotiate with Global Clearing House to end the dispute between Kuwait Customs Authority and the company that led to the disruption of customs logistic operations. In a statement, Al-Saleh explained the dispute between Kuwait Customs and Global House has disrupted several operations having to do with the use of advanced X-Ray equipments for detecting smuggling effectively and without depending solely on humans. He added the most advanced ports worldwide depend 30 percent on humans, while the rest of work is done by sophisticated modern device. Al-Saleh noted the negotiating team includes three consultants from Fatwa and Legislation Department, two representatives from the Finance Ministry, and other officials from customs. As part of negotiations, the team will recommend the withdrawal of court cases filed against Customs Authority by the company, in which, the latter initially won the first case involving compensation worth KD 99 million, Al-Saleh stressed. He indicated both sides are willing to overlook the dispute and go for settlement for the sake of public welfare. Earlier, the Minister made a tour of Shuwaikh Port accompanied by the Director General of Customs Authority Khaled Al-Saif, following the recent thwarting of attempt to smuggle considerable quantity of diesel outside the country. In another development, the Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh denied reports which said the Director-General of the Public Institute for Social Security Hamad Al-Humaidi had threatened to take action against striking employee. The minister added, the employees are on strike for more than a month, and were briefed about their duties and responsibilities and the legality of the strike by the director-general in order not to interrupt the work flow. The minister has said no one has threatened anyone because nobody is in dispute with the employees, but all that has happened is Al-Humaidi has made it clear to the employees the importance of not interrupting work and harming the interests of others.
