The Gurukul system had a methodology -- call it pedagogy -- with one important distinction compared to how the best of formal education is imparted today : Instillation and imbibing of values ... along with knowledge of language, literature, history, sciences, crafts, etc. In comparision, the method and environment current in our schools and colleges conspicuously lacks any such effectiveness, despite the focus and will amongst educators to equip students with life perspective and values system that give them critical thinking capability and the ability to guide themselves lifelong.
