Cuteness alert! The little lady below is Maylen, a three month old Dogo Argentino who found herself in a world of hurt not too long ago - thankfully our veterinary staff were able to give her a second chance at life and just being an adorable pup! Maylen suffered from an injury to her leg a couple weeks ago, likely a small bite from one of her littermates while all were engaged in some puppy hi-jinks. Her previous owners did the right thing and brought her to a vet to get checked out and bandaged - but then things started going downhill.... It appears that Maylens bandages were not changed appropriately, or perhaps not as frequently as recommended, or it may be that prescribed antibiotics were not given as directed. Whatever the cause, the previous owners brought Maylen to a second vet about a week after the initial injury and her leg was a mess - the pictures are just too graphic to be shown on Facebook. Skin and flesh were peeling away due to an infection, to the point that her tendons and bones were easily visible. The smell was horrendous and our girl was very sore. Maylen was surrendered to the second veterinary clinic by the owner and their specialists recommended that her leg be amputated once she was transferred into our care. Maylen was provided with antibiotics, painkillers, frequent bandage changes, and tons of cuddles before her surgery was scheduled at the Toronto Humane Society. She has since pulled through with flying colours and should be available for adoption within the next few days - keep posted to our website if you are interested in this three-legged sweetie!
