Cutting this short snippet from my book today. Nothing spectacular, but I really like it, I think because it shows how silly politicians can be sometimes. This is a military ship. Theres really no place for these kind of diversions on one. *sigh* Maybe Ill use this snippet somewhere else, but for now, its bye-bye. They walked side by side across a sky-blue tiled floor. Rykus glanced at the holovids projected down from the ceiling. Some displayed ship’s status and crew summons, others advertised Fleet-friendly restaurants and clubs dirtside of Sunnymead Station, supposedly the Obsidian’s next port of call, and still a few more flashed highlights of sporting events from around Coalition space. Every warship built within the last fifty years had a rec-deck, a place where non-coms, officers, and any civilians who might be on board could go to unwind. The Fighting Corps thought the expense was an absurd extravagance, but five decades ago, government officials read a study suggesting extended time on board a ship could be harmful to an individual’s health. The psychologists had insisted on a recreation area for the “mental soundness” of the crew, and architects had included a half-deck in their designs for the larger warships. Of course, a later addendum to the report stated only a small percentage of the population suffered from space-dementia, but by that time, Fleet was unwilling to give up its diversions.
