Cycle City Ambition Grant - Success. Message from Leeds City Council: West Yorkshire, with Leeds is major partner with Bradford, have been successful in the Cycle City Ambition Grant, which will build further on Leeds hosting the Tour de France’s Grand Depart in 2014. A link to the announcement is contained here:- https://gov.uk/government/news/government-shifts-cycling-up-a-gear Key Project Features Leeds to Bradford cycle super highway (14 miles long) Public realm streetscape improvements through the centre of Stanningley Leeds City Centre Cycle City Loop; improving the cycle connectivity of the city centre High quality resurfacing of the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpath between Armley and Shipley High quality cycle parking in Leeds City and at key points on the superhighway 20 mph schemes in the areas adjacent to the route. · A new organisation is proposed to bring together partners to engage with communities in encouraging the take–up of cycling. The funding comprises of £18.1 million from the Department for Transport and an £11.2 million local contribution. The local contribution is broken down thus:- · £7.5 Million West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan ( 2014 - 2017 ) · 315k Third Party Contributions (300k Grimes Dyke & 15k Northern Rail) · £3.4 Million from Leeds, Bradford the ITA. The WYLTP funding is identified form Implementation Plan 2 of Local Transport Plan 3. This was approved by the ITA in April 2013. In effect this represents the Cycling And Walking element of Implementation Plan 2. The Leeds element of the £3.4 million consists of £1.78 M. This comes predominantly from existing salaries and expenditure in the Road Safety Education and Influencing Travel Behaviour areas, and expenditure on the Skyride and Public Health projects. I will contact those of you whose Wards are contained within the scheme again shortly with a more accurate overview of what is proposed in each Ward, after the initial consultation in April before the bid was submitted.
