Cyclone HUDHUD underwent some significant structural changes prior to landfall... An eyewall replacement cycle (ERC) quickly ensued during the day (USA eastern time) today and now the storm has a much larger inner-core. Its possible that dry air entrainment accelerated this process. A moat (subsidence) region outside the eyewall was evident about 6 hours ago. Then the (then) primary eyewall quickly eroded and now there are some shallow remains of it along with a much larger eye structure and the new eyewall taking over. The increase in size represents more problems to areas north of the center when it comes to high winds and storm surge. Otherwise, no significant intensity fluctuations are anticipated until landfall. Images source: Brian McNoldy - RSMAS U. Miami (TC radar loops)
