Cystitis? Eat the right foods. D-Mannose is a simple sugar - TopicsExpress

Cystitis? Eat the right foods. D-Mannose is a simple sugar found in peaches, apples, berries cranberries and some other plants. Research shows that E.coli likes to attach itself to D-mannose, also produced naturally as part of the walls of cells. D-mannose is present in the bladder and urinary tract, providing ideal docking ports for the E.coli. The E.coli can then bury themselves into the bladder wall, making them very difficult to get rid of. The theory is that providing a richer supply of D-mannose in the urine can encourage the E.coli to attach to the free mannose instead of the mannose in the cell walls.
