D for Deepika. D for Dare...(NOT D for Depression...) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- You dont know whats fear...till it grips you. You dont know whats anxiety...till it hits you. You dont know whats depression...till it sets in. And the worst part is, you are not able to understand whats happening to you...since the tool to comprehend it...your brain...is actually the culprit causing it ! There is actually nothing wrong, yet nothing feels right. Still there are people who dismiss it as nothing. I know cos I have lived life on the edge and experienced it all partially. And that partial is terrifying enough. It disgusts me when I wake up in the morning to read a column by Shobha De on Deepika Padukones recent account of battling with her anxiety & depression titled - D for Deepika. D for Depression... One of the most nonsensical articles I have ever read, not that anything Shobha De writes ever makes sense. Take a sample from her column today : Perhaps Deepika has been roped in by some big ticket company to go public with her mental disorder. Even if that turns out to be the case, its fine. If Deepika becomes the spokesperson for a mental health organisation (and is paid big bucks for it), thats fine, too. What kind of a columnist writes this ? Now who IS Shobha De ? During my college days I ended up wasting some money n time on couple of her novels and obviously regretted doing so. Honestly I had read them cos my friends had told me there is an exciting cheap novel in the market...and you know the cheap thrills boys seek in college ! The same year I had also read Love Story by Erich Segal and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I learnt what quality content, writing n story-telling is all about. I realized at a young age that Shobha De is one of the most mediocre writers I will ever get to read...and years later I have avoided reading even the columns she writes. Sometimes out of curiosity I read one or two, just to see if she has improved, after all she is one of the best known writers in the country...but she is consistent with her mediocrity. You are trying to tell your readers that Deepika is making money out of talking about her depression and anxiety??? Do you even know what it does to your mind and what it takes to come out of it ? Shobha De might n might not have experienced it herself at some stage of life- but she certainly has no clue what she is talking about. Or may be Deepikas recent fight with the media giant is still fresh in their heads. I have somehow started liking Deepika a lot. That girl has something extra-ordinary about her. She talks straight n from the heart. Her recent award she dedicated to Kangana Ranaut for her performance in Queen. It takes guts to do that...cos somehow in her heart she knew Kangana equally or more deserved it. Taking money to talk about it or not talk about it hardly matters here. There are millions around the world who would give everything they have to feel normal again. Her coming out and talking about it and the wide media attention will help n guide countless people. I would say D is for Deepika. D is for Dare...(NOT D for Depression...). Only the dumb would miss the sarcasm in the title. My vote to Deepika for speaking up. Well done girl ! pravin talan #deepikapadukone #shobhade #depression #anxiety #mumbaimirror
