DA PAUL ZELLERBACH INVESTIGATION UPDATE: Statement from Susana Chandi, co-owner of gas station involved in campaign sign flap: I felt that it was important that the citizens of Riverside County know the truth about the campaign sign situation that occurred at our gas station in Indio, on April 23, 2014. Prior to April 23, 2014, we had given District Attorney Paul Zellerbach permission to place his campaign signs at all of our gas stations in Riverside County. When I was inquired by Mr. Paul Zellerbach regarding whether or not Mr. Mike Hestrin had mine and my husband Nachhattar Chandi’s permission to post his campaign signs I informed him that he did not. I additionally told him that he could remove the Hestrin campaign signs since they were unauthorized. I later learned that there was a miscommunication error on my part and that my husband had given Mr. Hestrin permission to post his campaign signs. I was unaware of this, since my husband has direct communication with both candidates and had not informed me of his awarding permission to Mr. Hestrin. To this day, I still do not understand why the Indio Police Department is trying to make this out to be a criminal situation when it is clearly not.
