DA Sedita, your actions in this case constitute an obvious and outrageous miscarriage of justice. When officers break the law, they are as much criminals as those they are paid to apprehend. This officer has been charged with committing egregious felonies that deserve to be prosecuted as such. Any other, lesser charges are unacceptable and cannot be perceived by the public you serve as anything but corruption and abuse of position, motivated either by personal gain or a total disregard for the seriousness of dog fighting. I frankly dont know which is worse, but believe redemption lies only in a reversal of your decision to reduce the charges to misdemeanors. Please carefully consider the impact not doing so could have on the future of your career.
