DAILY CELEBRATION OF CHRIST, Wednesday, October 15, 2014 First Reading: Galatians 5:18-25 Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 1:1-4.6 (R. Jn 8:12) Gospel Acclamation: John 10:27 Gospel Reading: Luke 11:42-46 Today is a special day for the Catholics, especially the Carmelite Family. Today is the annual feast day of St. Teresa of Jesus, popularly known as St. Teresa of Avila. Today also marks the beginning of the 5th Centenary celebration of the birth of St. Teresa of Jesus in heaven. Teresa de Ahumada y Cepeda was born in Avila, Castile, Spain, on March 28, 1515. Her parents were of a very high estate, her father being a rather wealthy merchant. Teresa was the most beloved among her nine brothers and sisters. From her youth, Teresa showed great zeal and piety, as well as courage. However, the one trait of Teresa that stood out the most was her strong will. Teresa joined the Carmelites at the age of twenty. After some years she resolved, with the grace of God, to pursue a life of intense holiness. Together with Saint John of the Cross, she undertook the reform of the Carmelites. Through her reformation agenda the Carmelite Order gave birth to another Order known as the Order of the Discalced Carmelites of our Lady of Mount Carmel. Teresa was blessed by the Lord with great faith and mystical revelations. God gave us an ardent courage to overcome many trials and difficulties which she encountered in her life, especially during the reformation. She wrote a good number of influential books, among them are the Way of Perfection, the Interior Castle, and the book of her Foundation where she discussed the challenges she faced while she was establishing her monasteries and how God in His infinite od was able to see her through. He most popular and most influential maxim is “Let nothing trouble you, let nothing frighten you. All things are passing; God never changes. Patience obtains all things. He who possesses God lacks nothing: God alone suffices.” With God on your side you have nothing to fear or worry about. One with God is majority. Today’s responsorial Psalm, an inspiration taken from John 8:12 states, “He who follows you, Lord, will have the light of life.” Through the intercession of our Holy Mother, St. Teresa of Jesus, may God grant us courage in every trial; may He uproot every fear from our lives and may He grant us the grace to remain focused and determined all the days of our lives, in Jesus name - Amen!
