DAILY DEVOTION January 22nd Lesson Twenty Two GIVING OF OFFERING TEXT: LUKE 21:1-4 KEY VERSE: “And I have showed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive”. (Acts 20:35) Offering is that which we give willingly and happily to God whenever we come to worship Him in the church. It is one of the way of giving glory to Him. It is part of worship. As we pray, sing, praise, hear His word and receive His blessings we should also give offering of material things and money to Him. Offering should be given willingly, joyfully and in appreciation for His worthiness and goodness. It must also be given in holiness. Sometimes the gospel work may be so demanding that the money the church realizes from tithes and offering may be grossly insufficient. The Lord expects church members to give willingly, bountifully and sacrificially for this. Money may be required for construction project or evangelistic outreaches. The church members should willingly contribute for these. Where labour is required the people should turn up to render their service to the Lord. There is much blessing in giving for the gospel. We need to know this. We are living in a world of affliction and misery. There are those who suffer adversely from the mishap of the world. They may suffer sickness, theft, famine, nakedness, and poverty. Some of these may require our financial or material assistance. We should give to support them, to ease their burden. The Lord demands this of us. Giving willing and joyfully in holiness attracts God’s blessings upon your life on this earth and a reward in heaven. We must obey the words of our Lord Jesus that says “It is more blessed to give than to receive”. “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy: That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”(1 Timothy 6:17-19).
