Text: “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” - 1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV) Mr Wale is a structural engineer. I have worked with him for years and I can give him a contract and go on vacation. I am sure he wont disappoint. However, if he tells you to mix 5 bags of cement please just mix 2 and if he says mix 2 please mix 8. The bottom line is that hes a professional, I trust him but I dont follow what he says. How ridiculous? I can imagine the look on the bricklayers face, You trust him but I should not obey him. How possible? Many times, it’s easy for us to say how much we trust God, How sure we are Hes taking us to an expected end. In fact most of us go along rejoicing and singing songs like because He lives, I can face tomorrow simply because, we trust that the Father has a plan for us but the question is does trust come alone? Is it just a word or a feeling or is it a word backed up by action? This is answered by the song writer who tells us to trust and obey meaning that for trust to be trust, it must be backed up by obedience. Obedience is the physical manifestation of trust. How interesting it would have been to hear that Noah trusted God but didnt build the ship or that Abraham trusted God but didnt sacrifice Isaac. The end for a Christian is to see Jesus. The means to this end however may not be as simple as it sounds. It requires a lot on our part. However, there is one thing that would keep us and it is the joy of the Lord (which is our strength) and it comes by trusting and obeying. Little wonder the song writer said trust and obey, for theres no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. TRUST AND OBEY… thats all.
