DAILY ENCOUNTER WITH GOD September 17, Wednesday VERY SOON MY ANGER WILL END Text for the Day: Isaiah 10:20-25 Therefore, this is what the Lord, the LORD Almighty, says: “O my people who live in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrians, who beat you with a rod and lift up a club against you, as Egypt did. Very soon my anger against you will end and my wrath will be directed to their destruction.” Isaiah 10:24-25 (NIV) Isaiah prophesied the eventual end of punishment for the Israelites. Though the painful domination of Assyria was a part of God’s judgment, God would bring the Jews back from exile. The Jews would turn from their dependency on the conquering Assyrians to trusting the Lord again. God promised that a remnant would come back to the true God of Israel. Though the experience of exile would not be stopped, Isaiah declares that the powerful Assyrians would themselves be defeated because the anger of God would stop. In fact, God would also punish the Assyrians and destroy them. Sin will always come with its attending consequences. God will bring sad and painful sanctions to the disobedient. He can even use unrighteous people to effect such sanctions and bring erring children back to Himself. We, however, must guard against the fear that God’s punishment and the consequences of sin will always be a dominant feature in life. We should remember that God can never be defeated by the Devil. If God permits the Devil to deal with us, it must surely end one day. God will not remain angry with us forever if we turn from our sins and return to Him. Repent today and turn back to God. Wisdom: Even though God’s anger is not forever, the wise try to avoid it. Food For Thought: Am I suffering from the repercussion of any sin I have committed? Follow-up Action: Give a message of hope to someone suffering the repercussion of sin. Prayer Point: Lord, forgive me my sins, give me strength to endure and not run away from You.
