DAILY EXPRESS JULY 07, 2 K 14 Nightclub bids to keep licence By la romaine - Nikita Braxton-Benjamin nikita.braxton@trinidadexpress Story Created: Jul 6, 2014 at 9:18 PM ECT Story Updated: Jul 6, 2014 at 9:19 PM ECT IT is to be determined later this week whether the dancehall licence for a popular southern club will be renewed. Several residents near Metro Nightclub have raised objections to the club being able to continue operating at Gulf View Link Road, La Romaine. Owner of the club, Rajesh Chhita, is before the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court in a bid to have the licence renewed. Last Thursday, Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington and other members of the Licensing Committee agreed that the restaurant was not the problem, but rather the “feting” between 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays. “From the evidence by the objectors, people’s right to quiet and privacy is being undermined,” Wellington said in the San Fernando First Magistrates’ Court. Attorney Ravi Rajkumar, who was representing the objectors, said they had no problem with the restaurant continuing to operate. The establishment has a special restaurant licence and the dancehall licence, which were said to be “intertwined”. The matter was adjourned to Thursday. Attorney Keith Scotland and Subhas Panday are representing Chhita in the case.
