DAILY GOD MESSAGE: BETTER THAN SACRIFICE Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the Lord. Behold obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of ram (1 Samuel 15:22). Elisabeth Elliot tells the story of when she and her brother Tom were small children. Their mother would let Tom play with paper bags that she had saved as long as he put them away afterwards. One day she walked into the kitchen to find them strewn all over the floor. Tom was in another room at the piano with his father singing hymns. When their mother called him to the kitchen to tidy up, he protested, But Mum, I want to sing Jesus loves me this I know. His father, seated next to him, backed up the boys mother by saying: Its no good singing Gods praise if youre disobedient. To obey is better than sacrifice. One word stands out from all others as the key to knowing God, to having His peace and assurance in your life--it is obedience. (Eric Liddell). the word of God unmistakably clear and direct. king Saul was to carry out Gods plan. it was a divine extermination w/o options and w/o opinion. but Saul.. intentionally reverse the Divine command into his own command. by his alternate routes first, He lied... i have carried out the command of the Lord v.13 second, He rationalized.... (we) spared the best sheep and oxen, to sacrifice to the Lord. lastly, He passed the buck.. I did obey the voice of the Lord... but the people took some of the spoil, sheep and oxen... (vv.20-21) Samuel was not impressed... and rebuked the stubborn king... (v.22-23) finally Saul confessed. i have sinned v.24 with this in our mind, take a long look at Samuels rebuked once again, in summary, He said the three serious thing to Saul: to obey is better than all sorts of sacrificial activities. to rebel is similar to involving yourself in demonism. to disobey is no better than worshiping the idol. Powerful words. lets apply them inour life in our contemporary period in few details in our lives. Has the Lord clearly led you to do something and yet you are saying NO or NOT NOW? maybe youre trying to bargain with Him, substituting something else in place of His direct order. like Saul... WAIT NO MORE LONGER- OBEY! is there w/in you a stubborn spirit that causes you to rebel, argue, and fightback, even you know its against His leading? perhaps you bragged about your strong will or have cultivated the habit of resistance. like Saul... REBEL NO MORE- OBEY! have you developed the deceitful technique of hiding your disobedience behind human mask of lies and rationalization or manipulation or blame. like Saul... DECEIVE NO FURTHER- OBEY! the best proof or your love for your Lord is obedience... nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.
