DAILY READING - WEDNESDAY JOHN 4:46-54 The reply we hear from Jesus is not at all what we might expect. He rebukes the desperate father with these harsh words. 48 Jesus asked, “Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders?” Jesus already knows that it is the miracles and the power he has to heal the sick that will be the only way some people will begin to have faith and trust enough to want to follow him. His words are for the benefit of all within earshot, and just like today these ‘miraculous signs’ will attract some but be readily rationalised then dismissed by others. Are there seasons in our lives too where our faith is put to the test, and we need nothing short of a miracle – or at least something we can claim as an answer to prayer – to help us to continue investing our trust and faith in the Lord? During testing times it can help us to remember God’s faithfulness. Keeping a daily journal, storing away accounts of God’s faithfulness, can be an enormous blessing in difficult times. Prayer: Father God, when we doubt you please draw close to us where we can hear your heart beat in each moment of our lives, Amen.
