DAILY STIR 1-26-14 “HOW TO KEEP GOD’S WORD FIRST PLACE” Proverbs 4:20-23 says, “My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” You must immerse yourself in the word of God until it becomes a part of you. How can you tell if the word of God is really a part of you? The best indicator is when the word becomes the first thing that you consider in every situation or circumstance. Put God’s word in you so you will have something to consider. Psalm 119:11 says, “Your word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” No matter what you are facing or going through, find out what the word of God has to say about your situation. Find scripture that pertains to your situation and stand on that in prayer. John 15:7 says,” If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you will, and it shall be done for you.” Isaiah 55:11 says,” So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” So how do we get so immersed in the word that it abides in us and becomes our guide? Proverbs 4:20-23 tells how to develop this in our life. First, attend to God’s word, incline your ear to His sayings. Dont let His words depart from your eyes and keep them in the midst of your heart. Then keep and guard your heart with all diligence for out of it are all the issues of life. In other words, dont allow the cares, pleasures, and riches of this life to steal or choke out the word of God from your heart. Luke 8:14 talks about someone who has heard the word of God and after they have heard, they go out and allow God’s word to be choked with the cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and it brings no fruit. In contrast, Luke 8:15 says, “ But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.” I’m keeping God’s word first place and allowing it to bear fruit in my life, Chris
