DAILY THOUGHT Doing front squats right The biggest mistake - TopicsExpress

DAILY THOUGHT Doing front squats right The biggest mistake I see with people doing the front squat isnt rounding the upper back (although that is common) as this mistake actually occurs in part to what *I* consider the biggest technical mistake in the front squat: Doing a back squat with the bar held in front. What I mean by that is doing a front squat using a sitting back motion, essentially initiating the squatting down by bringing the hips back. This turns the exercise into a posterior chain movement and will lead to a forward torso lean. When doing a front squat you should break at the knees first and you should try to PREVENT the hips from moving back as much as possible. Bring your hips down in the straightest line allowed by your body structure and mobility. The coaching point I use is to bring your hips between your feet. Of course at first you will use less weight especially if your quads are proportionally weak. But that is the way to reap the benefits of the front squat: bigger quads and the capacity to catch and recover from a clean... if you are bending forward and have the hips back, the later is impossible with any kind of decent weight For more stuff like this, visit my online log at: tnation.t-nation/free_online_forum/micro-pa-users/christian_thibaudeau_log_1_ And you can follow me on twitter at: https://twitter/Coach_CThib
