DAILY VERSE This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17 NIV DAILY DEVOTION I read about a woman who’d been hired by an organization that required scripture memorization. A busy college student beginning in campus ministry and working a second job, she rebelled at the idea of memorizing Scripture. Still not convinced of the value of memorization, after three weeks, she finally tackled her first verse (Isaiah 48:17). At the same time, she decided to apply for a summer mission project in Russia; the application needed to be postmarked a certain day. Upon the deadline, she went to the post office on her way to work. She had everything she needed -- check, application and envelope and went to get the application copied. When she ran back to the car, she suddenly realized she’d left the keys in the car, locked inside with her checkbook and other things she needed! She had to be at work soon and wouldn’t be out in time to mail her application. The woman began to panic, but immediately God spoke the recent memory verse to her heart, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.” So she said, “Okay, God, I chose to trust that You directed me. Either You’ve got a way to get my car unlocked or they’ll accept my late application . . . or maybe I’m not supposed to go.” Walking calmly to her job, she left her car at the copy shop. Shortly after, her sister happened to drop by work, something she had never done, and had a key.. Her application was mailed and she was accepted for the mission in Russia. POINT OF CONNECTION There is a definite advantage to memorizing the word of God and hiding it in our hearts. The major one is that He leads us in the way we should go which gives us peace of mind.
