DAILY WALK July 25, 2014 NAME IT AND CLAIM IT BLAB IT AND GRAB IT There seems to be no end of prosperity gospel teachers and preachers who tickle the itching ears of those looking for an easy Gospel and treat the Lord like a financial slot machine. They say prayers, fast, stand on faith and expect God to reward them with cash. 2 Timothy 4:3 says For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears, they shall heap to themselves teachers in accordance with their own lusts. (KJV) 1 Timothy 6:3-5 says if anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. There was a time when money was so short that we had no health insurance and we didn’t know where the next house payment was coming from. As we walked through this together hand in hand, we had some of the greatest spiritual growth in our 54 years of marriage. Paul continues: But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:6-10) It is incredibly foolish to try to manipulate the Lord with our silly little trick. It is so much better to thank Him in all things and trust Him to take care of our financial needs. He knew our needs before we realized they were a need. If you are a believer in Jesus and are experiencing financial difficulties it is part of God’s plan for your life and He will not abandon you in difficult times.
