DAKOTAS JOURNEY.... Many of our followers will know Dakota and her 7 friends story....Following an investigation by Ourselves and local Gardai in July 2013..Dakota,along with 7 other dogs were removed from a horrific situatiin,many were severley emaciated. These 8 dogs stayed at our sanctuary untill a court hearing surrounding them went to court in July 2014....They were then held by the courts until Oct/Nov 2014 and were finally awarded to us at Gspca as our dogs. Finally these dogs were free from their past and could now be put on our rehoming list. Dakotas glum photo posted 2 weeks ago certainly put our phones/emails into meltdown.Many people enquired.We had some lovely people ...kind people...and eventually Staff decided on who they thought ticked all the boxes to meet Dakotas needs. So today at Heathlawn,some staff bade a teary goodbye to a girl who had become a big part of their lives over the last 18months.So in the company of 2 other staff members,Dakota made the journey today to Kilkenny,to her new dad,her new home and her new life. It was emoitional to watch a girl who had nearly not survived, walk through her OWN front door today,to watch her run from room to room so excited at her new surroundings and freedom.A big,gentle girl who basically lost 18months of her life through no fault of her own sit and slobber kisses all over her new dad. For us, as we left it was mixed feelings....Its what we strive towards for every dog in our care but every time you do leave a little piece of your heart behind in someones sitting room.And tomorrow morning it will seem strange not too see Dakotas face peering out at us looking for her breakfast....but you did us proud sweet Dakota and we know you knew just how much all at Heathlawn loved you...enjoy big girl. you have definately earned your chance of happiness.....you have just the best time ever.....x
