DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL - The Biggest Oscar Snub No One is Talking - TopicsExpress

DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL - The Biggest Oscar Snub No One is Talking About Today marks an interesting day for me. I cannot recall a year when I was this indifferent to the Oscar Nominations being announced. Perhaps its because Ive never been so out of touch with the nominations. As of this writing I can honestly claim the following: The Grand Budepest Hotel is the ONLY best picture nominee I have seen I have not seen a single acting performance nominated... In any of the four categories. I could go on but I think thats enough to let you know how far from the pulse I am. I hope to catch up on my homework before the Oscars themselves but thats not what this is about. Early this year, long before awards films were being released, we were given DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Not only was the film a masterpiece, easily worthy of serious recognition for Directing, Cinematography and Screenplay writing, it also deserves recognition for achieving something truly brilliant and unprecedented. The film is up for best VFX, rightly so. The performance of Andy Serkis as Caesar is, by far the best Ive seen this year (Doesnt say much) and probably the best acting Ive seen in all my life. Our own John H. Foote said it was comparable to Daniel Day-Lewis Lincoln, sentiment I whole-heatedly agree with. While I am not at all surprised at the snub (We would have known if they were considering this weeks and weeks ago) it disheartens me. As I stated in my initial review, it is my opinion that a serious disservice has been done here. Performance capture is new and some are still skeptical. I am not raging or seething, just disappointing. One could argue that Serkis work is all the more exemplary because of the medium he did it in, it burned through all the digital makeup and revealed something beautiful. I love Caeser. I felt his pain. He is more human than many protagonists throughout film history. In short, I will end with a question, mainly posted to John but to anyone who has seen the nominated performance. Is EVERY best actor nominee this year MORE deserving that Serkis? And on top of that, what are your thoughts on this situation? I dont feel too much pain for Serkis. With Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes, Star wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hes got a pretty good looking resume on his hands.
