DANCE TYPE: Swing PROFESSIONAL PARTNER: Van Vo STUDIO: Courtney Black’s Ballroom Dance April 26, 2014 - native of Forest Hill, Louisiana, Renea Austin-Duffin is an accomplished and proven leader in government and the private sector. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Public Administration from LSU in 1987 and a Master of Public Administration degree from Southern University in 1989. In summer 2006, after serving in public administration and outreach, Renea put her professional career on pause and became full-time caregiver to her sister, who was living with cancer. This life-changing experience inspired her to seek success with significance. Today, she serves as the Vice-President of Cancer Support and Outreach at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. She is responsible for the oversight and strategic development for all programs and services, within an 18 parish service area, to lessen the burden of cancer in the community. While her professional career and community service are important, she views her most challenging and rewarding role as those of wife to her husband, Morise L. Duffin, Jr., and mother to her son, Morise L. Duffin, III (Trey). WHY BIG BUDDY? Renea’s work and goals have always been focused on improving and giving back to the community. Her decision to dance as a Star Dancer was another one of her many efforts to bring awareness and support to the youth of this community. Tonight, Renea will once again “seek success with significance,” as she brings light to the work of the Big Buddy Program and the Little Buddies.
