DANIEL AND THE LIONS DEN AND THE ANTICHRIST There is no question when we read about Daniel that he was certainly a man of God and because of that he is a great example for us today. One of the most popular stories in the bible is so profound when we look at the heart of this man. But it also represents a shadow of things to come as well. Evil men that were influenced by power and greed plotted to kill Daniel because he found favor in the eyes of the king. There was nothing they could find wrong in Daniels life so they came up with a plot to kill him based on the way he worshipped God. Dan 6:55 Then these men said, “We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.” That is a demonic plot to destroy believers even now and it will be in full effect when the antichrist is revealed. Satan cannot bring a charge against us any longer because Jesus paid the price for our sins. He is our advocate so Satan must try and get us to turn our back on Him. We know from visions God gave Daniel that the antichrist will move to take away the daily sacrifices. How does that relate to modern times when sacrifices are no longer done daily? The church knows Jesus became the final sacrifice and there will never be the need for another one. Paul tells us what modern day sacrifices really are and the truth is Daniel knew what it was as well. Its our sacrifice of praise. Its our daily devotion to our Father. Heb 13:15 15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. The plot that was influenced by Satan in Daniels time is going to be very similar to the end time attack on the church. Evil men in Daniels day influenced the king to make a decree that no man can pray or petition any god or man except the king for 30 days or they would be fed to the lions. We know also in the end times that those who refuse to bow down and worship the image of the antichrist will be sentenced to death as well. Now consider Daniel as a representative to the church today. Even with the knowledge that praying to our God would cost him his life, he never wavered and continued to offer up his daily sacrifice of praise. That is the same thing we are all called to do as well. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Rev 12:11 I am truly inspired by Daniel. Here is a man that was so dedicated to spending time with his Father that he was willing to face the lions den. Just think of the things today that distract us from spending time with the Lord that are so meaningless: the TV, computer, shopping, working out, etc, Do you think Daniel would have let those things stop him from his daily devotion? We know he wouldn’t and neither should we. There is so much value in opening the day in prayer to renew our minds so we can be prepared to face what ever obstacle the day may bring. The same goes for the end to reflect on every challenge we face and cast our cares to God. What type of relationship would you have with someone that you never spent any time talking too? Jesus asks us all a very straight forward question: “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. Matt 26:40-41
